Blue Mountains- May, Katoomba Airfield, 15/5/10

Hi all,

The Airfield is a go again for us, with a Saturday 15'th of May slated in for us. I shall try, again, to be there for 5pm. Thanks to those who got there at 4pm in April's jaunt.

This April's cloud-over was a shame, and an incredible show of the effects of altitude and an onshore wind. The variation in altitude saw the Airfield dry but clouded out with sucker holes coming and going within seconds, such is the nature of low cloud. 5km away at the Medlow Bath railway station, and 30m higher, gin clear sky! 5km the other way at Katoomba and 30m lower, fog and rain! At sea level back home in Sydney, clear and humid.

Quite a lesson in meterology. The Airfield's manager said to me later that the cloud cover didn't clear until noon on Sunday. The high pressure system over the Tasman sea was too strong to allow the off-shore wind to develop & clear the cloud.

- how true this April!

- let's hope for this May.

Reminder: the Airfield is BYO power. Once the generator is off, no lights either. Staying over night is OK too- either your own provisions or bunker down in the office. And it gets cold there too. Very cold.

Oh, and the customary contribution to the manager's favourite slab.

All welcome, 'scope or 'scopeless.

Mental.

Fingers crossed I'll try and make it as I won't be able to make it to SPSP this year.

Darn, I will have to give it a miss - I've had a bad cold all week and I won't be well enough for a night out in the cold.

Have fun, all...

Work, work, work!!!

I am so sad to say that I am not going to be able make it this month, .

Work has caught up and I have no way around it.

Rob will be there to organise the ale for Rod.

My appologies for my absence.

Clear skies for tonight.

Work is doing disaster recovery tests this weekend. Here was I hoping to make it to the airfield for the first time but I've already been called once.

I'm still game if there's any other takers, will need to get going by 4PM so as not to be setting up in the dark. Alex, let me know what Rod's poison is and I'll pick something up on the way.
