Finally made it!

Hello members, I introduced myself a couple of months ago as a Brit emmigrating to Cleveland, Brisbane - Well we arrived 3rd April and are just settling in.

Lovely clear skies and a far cry from UK skies which are a joke all year round. Don't see much LP from Brisbane which is 25km away NW. We have 2 streetlights 20-40 foot away so will have to see how I fare when my equipment arrives beginning July. I like Deep Space and Lunar/Planetary imaging with my 14" OrionOptics 1/10 wavefront Newtonian (SPX350). I like planetary nebs and galaxies but am getting into nebula narrowband now.

I have an ATK-16HR but want a QHY9 but only have 1.25" Astrodon filters? Notice its a bit breezy here near coast but I have had a few still night.

The Milkyway in Sag/Sco is still an amazing sight not like in UK (Cheshire). I brought an 80mmF6 achromat in my suitcase to look at some of the clusters in Carina.

I am on UKAIF as well as SGL and PAIG in the UK and so will look forward to showing you some images if my equipment arrives safely. You have some very high standard images on this forum - love the M83 on the 16" astrograph.

Will take a good look around this site and you made me feel very welcome a couple of months ago so will start commenting on your splendid imaging efforts.

Hi John, greetings from another Brit down under! been here almost 4 years, and am eligible to apply for citizenship next month



I still am not used to the sky, if i kinda bend my back over and look upside down it makes sense to me, although its hard to look up, and see that what was on the horizon in the UK, is now passing through the zenith! the moon still gets me to, phases being backwards to what i know, and going backwards across the sky.

There are some things i miss getting a really good view of in the NH, mainly Cygnus and Perseus, but the SH skies more than make up for it

Thanks guys, yes the sky and Moon are strange but think my EQ6 GOTO will earn its money with the strange dots in the sky which mean nothing to me even after a month. Upside down Leo means little to me and with Mars in the North I am flummoxed! Orion is so high in the twilight and Sirius overhead with Capella on the horizon.

Sorry Peter forgot the mints (I like Black Jack chews myself) - I remember being asked probably by you a few months ago when I was in UK - Sorry. There are quite a few things you cannot get here

I do like Anzac biscuits and seedless water melon and no doubt will discover new delicacies.

Don't like those fruit bats which are massive on the fig tree near the window but the Gekos on the window at night are excellent.

You have come at a great time of the year, with the heat and humidity gone, and hopefully gorgeous weather to come.
Hope the bats dont get too noisy and smelly, and dont touch them as they can have a diseased bite.
