Netbook suggestions for Mothers Day

Hi,

the kids and I have settled on the idea to get their Mum one
of the cheap Netbooks for Mother's Day.
As I have no idea what features differ in the cheapest, ie
$398 , to the most we'd probably spend, ie $<500.
They all seem to have pretty close specs...only HD sizes and
what type of OS.
Can anyone recommend a standout bargain or one to keep
clear of? Which OS? etc

thanks in advance.

Steve

Will she be needing it just to run the guide cam?
Or will she be capturing to it as well?

Hi Steve

The answer is simple!
Is she a computer user or does she not care less?
If she is a computer user forget it because you will never get her to do anything like meals, washing and ironing etc.
If she is not interested in computers get the one you like best because you will be the one that gets to use it the most.

Well I'm not an authority on netbooks, although we have many laptops in our household, but we purchased our 1st netbook the other day...great price for features.

We purchased an Acer Aspire One for $378 (from mln). It has a cash back promo ATM (ends 30th Apr) of $79 which brings it to $299. Which is indeed cheap!

Specs:

Processor:Intel Atom Z520 (1.33GHz)Screen:11.6inch HD LED DisplayMemory:1GB DDR2 RAMStorage:160GB HDDCategory:Business, UltraportableConnectivity:10/100 ethernet, WiFi b/g, BluetoothBuilt in Devices:WebCam, 3 x USB portsOperating System:Microsoft Windows XP HomeWarranty:12 months manufacturer's
Best feature is the 11.6inch screen & it's 1366 x 768 resolution. Battery life is great, very portable. Although... I'm not a great fan of Acer computers...but at this price & features..I am!

Barry, not you as well!
My intentions are purely honourable.....
BTW, do you think PS would run on 1G Ram?
I'm sure at some stage she might need to process...I mean
display a picture

Thanks WasYoungOnce.....that's one of the ones I was looking at.

I got Asus EeePC netbook for $379 from Office Works. 1.6GHZ ATOM processor, 1 GIG RAM, I think 250GB hard drive or bigger, WIN XP Home.

I dont like ACER, there is a reason why its so cheap. Very bad experience with them

cheers

Hi Steve

I bought one of those earlier Acer E-machines at under $400 E250 1G Ram 160HDD etc 1200 x 600 screen.

I have not found anything that it won't run at least as good as my main computers. I regularly use it to compile and run Stellarium. It runs DSS, Photoshop, PHD, Skype etc. The only drawback is the lack of a DVD drive but a 4G USB dongle is just about as good.
