Jim, see my review on my site.

I have one and had it from early on. I think I was the second or 3rd to own one, really nice sharp optics. The scopes had some small problems early on but now everything is looking good. Spend your money.

cventer, I was told that there are 10" scopes on the shipment which is on its way to Australia from Jim Sheng (the owner) but I have subsequently heard that Jim can sometimes say one thing and do another. Two weeks the shipment should be here (it comes by sea) for Andrews. I would ring ATS though and see what Peter says.

8" gso rc

Hi Paul thanks for your prompt response, I'm going to get one from Andrews Comms I spoke to them today, a few people have commented that the focuser is not of good quality, have you had to change the focuser?? is there any gotchas that I have to worry about??
I'm going to mount it on a EQ 6 pro do you think the mount is OK for the RC
Thanks

ps. I also rang ATS and they don't any left, they said if you want to purchase a 10" RC you'll need to put a deposit on it

Spoke with Andrews today. They said their shipment had left and 10" were not ready in time for that so ship has left without them. Hence my strong doubt as to December availability for 10".

Jim,

I needed to change the focusor out. Which was ok for most applications but would not hold the camera without some slop. The new focusor seems on the RC's is supposed to be fine. Peter Ward has taken an image with a STL11,000 on an 8" and the stars showed no signs of slop.

Like I said initial teething problems have been sorted.

Yes. I own one. It is in transit to Taiwan at the moment to be fixed. The local dealer ignored the poroblems I raised with them and the other gentleman on these forums who offered to intercede for me with GSO has stopped answering my emails. Good luck with the scope. Based on my recent experience, you're likely to be on your own if something goes wrong. See what the dealer actually promises by way of after-sales service and get it in writing.

Que? Pete, careful mate, I answered all of your emails, even when I was in the USA...(though I do wonder about the reliability of hotel servers)....

That said, to ask a business to take on the responsibilities of another, was in this case a bit like asking Harvey Norman to sort out a problem you have with something you bought from E-Bay, but originally was sold by Coles.

As I understand it, you bought the scope second-hand, dis-assembled it, then asked the vendor who sold it to the original buyer, to see if they could fix it.

The business I am connected with pointed out to do the job properly, required factory jigs, which were, well, at the factory. To put this into perspective, how many Holden dealers do you think have CNC mills?

While a local look and fix was possible, it had a modest cost & was not guaranteed due to lack of said jigs.

Due to the significantly higher cost and liabilities, said business did not want to take on a return to GSO for a product not originally sold by them.

Whew! That said, you are far from being on your own when dealing with a local business. If nothing else, Australia consumer laws compel fair trading, particularly if you have a problem with a new item purchased from them.

Pete you should add to your signature

"proud owner of a prancing horse"

I purchased one of the first shipment and even took it apart to repaint the baffle, after a bit of effort the collimation it's now reasonably spot on

for the money a good scope IMHO

mmm...I already said my bit about the other retailer (both Peters) in a thread a month or so ago. I also said how I'd have dealt with them. Since I've also experienced not so great post sale support, I'm very cautious going back to them. Bintel for this lad for the vast majority of things, ATS for that very nice SBIG 8300 based imaging camera when I get some spare cash. And if I do get a GSO RC in the future (not sure these days), it'll be from ATS as well. Peter W is a specialist with astro gear, said other company is a generalised electronics retailer.

Yeah. Optically they're terrific value. I agree. But the "prancing horse"? I don't know. Ferrari? Or in light of Tuesday's events "Shocking"? Mixed metaphor that one.
