ED 127 focuser

Well, my Ed 127 has arrived and yes, it's big; and yes, the optics seem fantastic for the money. May get some light tonight, weather permitting.

I wonder if others who have bought the same scope have any info on what the collar with the two big nuts that sits on the upper side of the focuser is for. I removed the focuser to better secure it and was able to remove the collar - revealing just a round section of the focuser frame around which the collar rotates freely unless it is held in place by those two nuts. It doesn't seem to have any other purpose at all. If the scope had a focuser, this is where it might be miunted. Perhaps that's it?

Anyone got any ideas?

Peter

It mounts the finder scope on the 127 version and on the 80 version there is a dovetail foot that mounts on one of the holes and allows the whole scope to be rotated relative to the mount - the second hole has the locking screw.
