I've survived
I arrived at Lostock on Wednesday to help Mike with setup on Thursday. I had a bit of a husky voice at that stage. The wild winds we experienced on Wednesday destroyed a new tarp, and then kept me awake most of Wednesday night.
By 10:30/ 11o'clock on Thursday night I was a shattered unit, and called it a night. I even packed my scope away in the car in case the forecast third front came through. I slept really well, but when I woke I was deep in the throws of a nasty cold . So I spent much of the day keeping to myself and convalescing in my tent, hoping I could get over it quickly. It wasn't to be...
After another rough night (for me) on Friday night, I pulled the pin and came home. It was very disappointing. We go to these events to meet people and mingle (and maybe do some observing/imaging as well ) and I didn't want to spread the cold if I could avoid it, so I was keeping to myself as much as possible.
I think I left just in time. If I'd stayed much longer I think someone would've walked past with a wheelbarrow shouting "Bring out your dead!", and Deeno would've had me over his shoulder in no time!
And Mike kept on telling me "you look terrible" but... hey... I expect that! ... I didn't realise he was talking about my cold!
I'm glad the event went off well again this year. I'm looking forward to next year now (I hope I'm well enough to swim next year! )

Hey Al
Get better soon – it is a noble thing you did; helping set up whilst under the weather and then avoiding others so you didn’t pass on the dreaded lurgy!
Cheers

Sorry to hear you are crook Al.
There's nothing (well almost nothing) worse than being crook while away from home. I hope that you feel and get better soon.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out Al
Two years ago by pure chance I scored a fueled up truck and a days pay to attend astrofest all I had to do was load a fuel tank a little further up the valley ,stop off at duckadang ,and return home the next day..
The worst flue I'd ever had was gone the week before but the respority stuff going on with it wasn't I found out .. The cooling afternoon air had me in a bad way pretty quick .. caught a bit of Rob Macs great presentation didn't feel much better when I came outdoors again so thought it best to leave.I drove 540 + kms that day ,never saw the night sky .. Nothing wrong with choseing your health ahead of a new moon mate

My heart goes out to you Al. What we do for our hobby! Hope you recover soon for some clear skies.
I just got back from Wiruna. It was a toss up whether I would go this weekend as I had a lot of teeth out on Wednesday (general Anaesthetic). That was the easy part. I got an ulcer on my tongue and can't eat. I strained my back on Thursday so I could not get around. The seeing was only average. However I still had a better time than languishing at home.

Not good Al. If it makes you feel better, I've been dodgy all last week, and since 10.30pm Friday night I've slept all but Six or so hours. I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but the left gland in my throat is up badly and very tender, I've got a coldsore to boot and have been sneezing on and off all weekend. There's this general feeling of malaise and just tenderness in the joints and feeling very tired. Even the simplest of things tire me.

In my case though I was languishing away ... it was a tough drive home but, gee, I was glad to get here.

Apart from the coldsore and swollen gland it all sounds too familiar... I wouldn't wish it on anyone during a new moon (let alone a star party! )

Glad you're feeling better, Al. You really did look and sound terrible
It's a shame you weren't able to enjoy the camp, but thanks for making the effort anyway!

I noticed your 'Travelscope' was missing!
Sorry you had to endure such pain, but I'm sure with devoted nursing you will get better .
It was nice to ketch up with you anyway, till next time.

Marginally better... not over it by any means. I hit my worst on Saturday after driving home from IISAC. Chills, fever, cough, snivels, headache... I just parked the truck, got inside the house and into bed. When Lyn got home I suggested a trip to the hospital, but after a couple of aspirin the fever/chills thing went (though I found I was still a little susceptible to that late this arvo ). I also got some "chesty mucus cough syrup" (doesn't that sound appetising? ) from the chemist this arvo, and while it's early days, I think it's helping.
When I told the lady in the chemist shop what I was after, she recommended this cough syrup... she said "It's says it's peach favoured, but don't worry about that it tastes disgusting!" I guess that makes it alright . She wasn't lying... I put it about one flavour point above swallowing petrol so I'm hoping it's good for something.
I'd like to take some more time to take it easy and get over it, but I have the TV antenna guy coming tomorrow so I've just dug a 30m trench today (with a trencher ) and more tomorrow. No rest for the wicked...

doh Al, that is not just fair at all. Try and get as much rest as you can - the more rest you get now, the quicker you can get out with the scope I'm dreading how I'm going to feel over the next few days then, at least if it's the same lurgey...
