Exclamation Ice In Space Calendar

I had the idea that if you took the 12 best images from the compendium you could make a great calendar for 2010 what do you all think of it? Sounds good to me.

Hi Warren, on the surface your idea sound like a good one, but I think there two problems with it.

Firstly, I feel the whole concept of the compendium was a "no competition" philosophy. All efforts were submitted regardless of experience and level of "wow" factor. Every submission was placed on a level playing field and I feel it would be unfair to then pick twelve that were "better" than the rest.

Also, every year Astrovisuals produce an Australian astronomy calender (I notice 2010 is out now) at http://www.astrovisuals.com.au/Calendar.html
so there may not be a market for a second calender.

Again, in any other circumstances, your idea is a good one. Just my thoughts Warren, but others may disagree with me, so see what the other members think...

Could they be picked out of a hat? I agree with you about the competition not being the way to go. I just think that I would love to buy a Calendar

Mike normally supplies the Astonomy Calendar every year anyway. The other issue is getting someone to put it together and get it printed etc.

Warren,

This idea was discussed in the main compendium thread.

I mentioned that people would get upset if their chosen work of art was not included in the calendar.

There's people who get upset at not winning competitions, and, even if the calendar idea was to go ahead with what you proposed -- images being picked out of a hat; not a competition -- people would still feel gibbed.

Regards,
Humayun

In the Terrestrial Photography forum there are the monthly Photo Challenges, perhaps an Astro Photo Challenge could be introduced?
Same deal, with the monthly 'winner' selecting the next months subject (Ha, Mono, Moon, Cluster, Globular, Spiral etc etc etc...) and IIS users voting in a poll, but when one year has passed the 12 images are then used for the Calendar?
