New GSO 8" RC

The new GSO 8" RC with redeisgned baffle tubes is now being sold by ATS for $2225 incl. shipping. This one is f/8. Sounds like the problem with the baffle tube has been fixed?

Do you know how it was fixed, Rob; and what exactly the problem was. I have an 'older' GSO RC and am experiencing all those stray reflections that seem to be specific to this scope. Is it flocking that is the answer? Or something else?
Peter

Hi Pete,

There is a thread on the older f/9 RC scopes in the equipment forum. The problem seems to be the baffles in the tube giving reflections from bright stars. The problem can be fixed by covering the internal surface of the tube with black felt. Some members have suggested using a felt lined dew shield - much easier to install.

Cheers,

Not all the older ones were F/9... Mine (which is now Peters) is F/8.. or at least, that is how it was advertised when I bought it, and measuring the FOV using CCD Calc and Starry Night Pro definitely indicates that its an F/8 scope..

Peter : Yes, flocking this baffle tube is all thats required to stop the reflections...

You may be able to contact Andrews or ATS and get one of them to attempt to order you a new baffle tube for your scope... Worth a try.. I know people have ordered in new dovetails for them etc.. so you might get one... Otherwise, I can help you flock that one next time I see you..

Let me know.
Alex.

There are both f/8 and f/9 versions. Also, the reflections are in the baffle tube. Should have read the thread again...
