should you be slightly out of balance in DEC as well as RA?

Saw this question posted in the Autoguiding Yahoo Group, thought I'd ask here.

In my simplified understanding of it all, I had assumed that you'd only need to have a slight imbalance in RA. I can't see or understand yet why you would need it in DEC also, since the motor is primarily moving in RA while imaging, and DEC adjustments should be minor if you're well balanced and well (drift) aligned.
