First solar image for a while and the seeing was well fairly shocking. I would rather have imaged this at a higher resolution but the seeing just would not co-operate. It made focus nearly impossible. Probably less than 5/10.

That said, I got my first capture for a while on Sol. A small filament, a prominence on the limb and of course the active region.

I hope that a large spot will develop for the solar eclipse, that would be very cool.

I love looking at solar images as they are different and the target is so alive.

I'm loving all these solar images coming out at the moment.

On my monitor there is a really jagged edge on the horizon of your shot. Not sure if it's oversharpening, compression/jpg type thing, or something else. Do you see it?

Troy it is on my shot too, it is the result of combining the proms data with the surface data. I use the magic tool and it does not give a nice smooth finish. I could do more to make the image look better, but given the trashy nature of the data I did not think it worth worrying about. On better data I would certainly do something about it. Well spotted.

Aah, I see. That'd explain it. I didn't realise it was a blend.

When you use the magic tool, does it have a "feather edges" and/or "antialiasing" type setting? That'd help. I don't know what image editing software you use. I use GIMP, but pretty sure similar features in most like Photoshop etc.

fantastic image Paul - was going to show this to a heap of school kids on tuesday but we were rained out - had to show them soho shots instead. It is a delight to see, more sunspots - bring them on

good point Troy and you reminded me that I should be using that feature. Well spotted. Take a look at it now, the limb is obviously not at bright but I think a better look overall.
