Login timeout?

Hi,

I've noticed something weird the last two days that may or may not
be related to IIS. I suspect it just my end.

I have always logged in to forums without having to properly login,
having checked the 'remember me' box ages ago.

Two nights ago I have had to login every visit...even 5 mins apart.
Something is timing out and making me a visitor every subsequent
visit to IIS?

My browser is always Mozilla
Is this my end or has something changed at IIS?

Steve

Hi Steve,
I only ticked the remember me box today for the first time and it remembered me tonight when I logged back on.
Up until today I noticed that whenever I logged in it only lasted a short time before I had to log in again.
So it must be something to do with the IIS site, I would think.
Maybe it needs looking at.
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

No, there's no problem with IIS. Nothing has changed on our end.

Molly the behaviour you described is how it's supposed to work - that's what the "remember me" box is for, so you don't NEED to re-login each time.

Steve, I suspect your cookie is getting deleted. Did you install any spyware blockers or similar tools that "clean up" after you visit websites? You might need to add *iceinspace.com.au to a "safe list" or similar?

Try another browser (chrome or IE7/8) and see if you get the same behaviour.

Hi Mike,
I knew I had to log in each time came back into IIS, but I was having to re log in every 5 minutes, while I was still on the site.

Thanks Mike,

I tried IE, same behaviour.
Something must have changed with cookies in the last few days.
It could have something to do with Avast maybe...dunno.
Normally I enter IIS just by clicking on a history link in
the URL window that goes straight to IIS forums screen direct
and I see pic 1 below.

As of 2 days ago I see pic 2, regardless of whether I revisit 5mins
later, 1 min later even with 'remember me' clicked back on.
Weird, but only a minor irritation.

That's unusual, it's certainly not an IIS thing. If you tick "remember me", you won't need to re-login as long as your cookie settings work as they should by default.

There's a 15 minute timeout if you don't click "remember me".

Even if you do tick "remember me", that'll make sure you don't get logged out while replying, composing a PM etc. Then you can still "Log out" at the end if you don't want to stay logged in between visits.

Nothing has changed on IIS - so if both of you are experiencing the same change in behaviour, it's likely to do with common software you're running which may have updated itself recently - like Avast, or IE, or FF, or your firewall, or your spyware scanner, or something like that.

You may have something running like "clean up cached files when I log off" or "clean up cookies" or something which deletes your cookies when you log off, or daily, or something like that.

Also be sure to check your firewall settings and add *.iceinspace.com.au to your "safe" list.

Also check your "security" settings in your browser - if you have it set to a "high security" mode, it won't save cookies which will give you the problem you're experiencing.

For me, the problem has spontaneously resolved itself (hmmnn, a little suspicious I hear you cry!) without any intervention from me. Weird huh!
