old moon shot - new treatment

Bored, so I was going thru my 150 shots!! of moon and jupe from feb this year and i messed around with grayscale for the first time - I also did a radical usm 100% on it.
Single shot Nikon CP 4500, WO 24mm ep, 10" dob, 250th sec, 100 ISO
Conditions werent great - very windy and warm, I never had focus completely as i was rushed (dob was horizontal at start took a lot of magnets to balance it!! crazy angle) and didnt readjust for focus shift - till it was too late - but this one got close to focus. Only used the lcd on the back - which can lie easily really need an external lcd like a portable dvd screen or something plugged into the av out - or make a hartmann lol!. Am really getting the afocal bug again now - gonna try and do a bit more.

Really nice Kearn, I love the contrast of the moon in the 2nd one. To avoid darkening Jupiter, make another layer with just the moon selected, and then do your levels/contrast/unsharp mask on that layer. You can then also make a layer with Jupiter in it, and brighten it up.

Great shots!

Awsome shot. I am finding afocal addictive and can't wait to get back into it, nasty clouds.

Thanks Mike!! followed your great advice and it worked beautifully :-))) only thing is i didnt keep the original large treated file and i had to redo from scratch - couldnt get the levels on the moon to match so this one is a bit darker. I am looking forward to using the tiff mode instead of maximum jpg in future attempts - might be nicer i suspect! I did try a clone stamp of jupiter version colour that worked nicely to.

Trevor, thanks mate having the same cloud problems here to I think there are a lot of frustrated observers/imagers out there atm!

Ta H0ughy , its turned a fairly ordinary slightly out of focus shot with a slight greenish hue ( CA from medium quality ep or from cameras lens or both? ) into something a bit more interesting.
man i would love to a takahashi ep or something of that quality for afocal - have to be threaded like the WO dcl-28 but -

Awesome stuff! It almost looks like the Moon has a moon. Chuck a generous black border around the pic before getting it printed.

Kearn, that's turned out really beautiful.
It's just amazing to see the two next to each other like that.
Well done.

Cheers Guy's!! :-)) Steve i might just try that - sounds like a very good idea - i have cropped from the top and bottom, but the sides are the edge of frame/ep.
