Comet Lulin from 20th Feb

A few photos of Lulin from last week. The comet travelled a significant distance in each of the 10 minute shots.

Hi Keith,

Well captured, however the comet is moving much faster than the movement of the stars. The nucleus of the comet is quite bright so why not try guiding on the nucleus, the stars will trail but the comet will be crisp as.

Regards
Trevor

Thank you for the kind comments. In Canberra we seem to be in a funny situation where the evening starts off clear, an easterly brings cloud in for a few hours, clears again then clouds over again. No rain just cloud coming and going.

After seeing the fantastic widefields and animations of Lulin, I thought something else was in order, so I've followed Trevor's (Quark) advice and guided on the comet (which was only possible due to acquiring a new guide camera from h0ughy, thanks again h0ughy ) but also gone for a closer capture.

In between the clouds I've managed 43 minutes of data at prime focus with a 150mm F12.5 Mak. I don't think it worked particularly well as stacking tended to remove the background star trails of the 4 or 5 faintish stars and the comet tailing was a bit lost from amp glow in the bottom right hand corner.

I've combined the best 10minute subs and processed them manually and reposted a new picture as the last one was errr.... yuck.
