Newbie (first astro pic, Moon)

Hi just thought i would share first pic i took through my new Bintel 10" Dob using my Canon 50d, i want to get into astrophotography down the track but bought a dob first to learn the sky as i heard they are a good first scope, really enjoying it just can't wait till new moon so we get dark skies again as i was just starting to enjoy some awesome DSO's.

Plenty here (including me) that'd be jealous of that as a first astrophotography pic Stuart. Well done!

Hi Stuart,

Well done on you first astro image.
You have selected a most appropriate scope to start finding your way around the night sky.

This Moon image is just the first step on what, I hope will be a very stimulating and fulfilling journey for you.

Hi Stuart

Well done on a great first image, nice and sharp. Perhaps you could've cropped it a bit and maybe reduced the exposure a tad? But very well done.

I started with a 10" dob too, and taking photos through the eyepiece is the perfect way to see if you like astrophotography.

Later on, you'll want to put your 10" on an EQ mount and use a webcam to image the moon and planets in high-res

If you want to use your DSLR at prime focus in your 10" newt to capture DSO's (at a later stage, when you're on an EQ mount), unfortunately you'll need to move your mirror up the tube.

Thanks guys, i really have to get a decent photo editing program, but i managed to crop and tone down exposure a little with what i have, like you said it is very addictive but i am more interested in just looking rather than taking photos at the moment i will most definatly get into some photography down the track, another bonus is my inlaws live on around 2000 acres in gippsland and it is really dark and plenty of places to setup and would be most happy for anyone else in my area that is into astronomy
to use the property for observing..
