Hi Guys, as me there dosen't seem to be much happening on the imaging side of things, probably the bloody Moon and the heat.

God only knows how hot it is here Leon. I tell a lie. It's 22 degrees and the A/C is working hard. The beer is cold and I intend to stay right where I am.

Well I was out last night, in suburban Melbourne, helping a friend who has been busy having babies for two years and was desperate to see through a scope again.

Good chance to set up the C8 on wedge with RA tracking on and test out my new second-hand cheapo 80 deg 30mm and 15mm eyepieces. I'm making up a pack for public viewing with this scope (IYA2009 in mind!) so have those two plus a Seben 8-24mm zoom. I reckon the wide angles went OK. Not bad across 80% of the field in the f10. At one stage the seeing cleared and the E & F stars in the trap were very visible and well separated in the 15mm (133x). Still have to fiddle with the Seben - cannot lock it firmly enough in the adapter to stop the whole eyepiece turning as I adjust the zoom.

Gave up trying to locate NGC253 - couldn't spot it in the bright skies!

A bit of the Jewel Box, 47 Tuc, M42, then we turned to the 15 day old Moon. Spent a while working along the terminator at 250x. She was stoked. Especially when she held her hand over the empty diagonal and I focussed the image of the moon on her hand! I enjoyed the views, the weather (observing above 10deg - luxury!), the fact that all worked well. Polar alignment and leveling was good enough to have only some drift!

Not sure how hot it is, but my highland blood cant handle it, although on the plus side, it never really gets cold here.

^^ yes it does lol! This summer has been barely better than winter , down here in melbourne atleast!

well, the warmest i have felt it in Glasgow was around 29 -30 degs, and the coldest i have felt was about -23.

Although i have been up to the North coast of Iceland, where it was -42

needless to say, i had 3 Adams apples, as the whole lot vanished ...

seems summer has arrived 34.6 in the shade here. havent done much imaging at all lately, 2 shots in 3 months, never mind, the right nights will come ...... one day

Wow -23. I can hardly handle -5 here. I'm a summer person myself. Only problem is it doesn't last long enough here in south NZ.

At least when it arrives we can get good temps mid 20s and up

doesn't help for veiwing when the stars are out at 10pm though.

Hi Leon i have just moved and have sold my dome. So imaging for me will be on the back foot for a while. Still have my mount and camera and scopes. But at this time i think i my just go and reprocess my photos i have. Not sort of data.

Just getting packed to move so no gear to hand at all. Going West, so will try to keep the 10" reasonably accessible for when I hit the Nullarbour. No hurry, might even do the Grey Nomad bit and tarry a while when it's good seeing.

Currently still 30 degrees out my way, too hot to get interested.

The other problem is that if I set up the scope then some loony will throw a smoke out the car window and my pager will go off.

I finished work too late to get any dark sky before moon rise, but the mount is setup and aligned ready for tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed about the clouds.
Our summer has been surprisingly mild too. Only a couple of hot humid days and I spent those lolling around in the creek.

33 degrees here at 9:45pm. Was going to go out, but then the mozzies and spiders that come as part of the package have me working my way thru a 6 pack instead

should not drop below 27 deg in melbourne tonight, a real unlikely surprise considering how crap and cold our "summer" (winter) has been so far.
