First Light Canon 40D
Wasn't the best of nights but we were desperate to at least have one good try from the 40D.
A short window of opportunity during the end of twilight and moonrise we only took a single image as the moon started to wash things out.
Details ::
Canon 40D Skywatcher 8" Newt PHD guided
Time 9.40pm
Single Light frame 7.5 min ISO800 ICNR
Processed PS CS2
The 40D is more HA sensitive than the ist DL and produces much more depth and detail.
Can't wait for a clear dark sky and take multiple shots

Hi Barb & Dave
Wow – what a gobsmacking first light image! The direct link to the hi res version didn’t work so I went to your website and found it that way. What a fantastic image of a stunning region!
Cheers

Great image guys. Looks like focus wasn't a problem. Have you had a play with live view and Utility program yet. I love mine it really produces nice images.
This image is great for a single, imagine your results with 10 or 20 of these stacked.. The skies the limit.
Well done

A lovely first light B&D, the keyhole is very spectacular and it all looks very sharp.
A great image to start off with.
Cheers

Houghy the 40D is definitely better in HA than the ist DL. Having said that this particular image has been processed in PS and has been colour enhanced to increase the red tones

Hi Doug. Yes we used live view for focusing what a super feature that is Being able to control the camera from the laptop with the software provided is fantastic.
Can't wait to set it to automatically take 10 x 7 min shots while we go inside and have a coffee

That's it I want a 40D! I've got a 10D and while it's good I think it's starting to show it's age. Can I be so rude to ask where you bought it and for how much (body only)?

keep your eye out in Ebay amongst the scams there are some genuine bargains. Mine is second hand, 3 months old with 2 lenses, bag, 1 gig card and just under 500 photos taken.
Out of Melbourne for $1200 plus $14.25 postage
The gentleman was talked into buying it but found it too hard to use.
I plan on perservering, and once I do the 4 year T.A.F.E. course hopefully I'll be able to atleast turn it on and know which hole the battery goes in.

Hi Phil
Thanks for your comments on our image.
Two of the features we really like about this camera are the depth of field detail and the ability to use live view for focusing.
