12 Day Old Moon and Nunki

Captured this on Wednesday night (13/8/08) while I was focusing the camera. I was surprised to find Nunki (Sigma Sagittarii) in the frame so I decided to capture a few images. The seeing was terrible so I had to increase the ISO speed so I could use a higher shutter speed.

C8 f/6.3 and Canon 450D. 1/600sec at ISO 800.

Thanks for looking.

Nice image Matty, how long have you had the 450D and how do you find it for astrophotography, particularly deep sky?

Regards
Trevor

Thanks Trevor,

I have had my 450D for just over 4 months now and I absolutely love it. It is a great performer especially for deep sky photography. If you like, have a look at my website for some images I have taken with it.

Are you thinking about getting one for astrophotography?

Just had a look at your website Matty, nice work.

Yes I am thinking about a 450D for astrophotography, but I would also want to use it for terrestial work.

Is your 450D standard or modified. I would be more than satisfied with the standard of image you are producing.

If thats what can be produced with C8 then a 450D should work well on my 16" F4.5

Regards
Trevor

Something about that shot is very captivating. I think it's the contrast between the limb and the rest of the Moon. I like Nunki too (an alignment star lately). Thanks!!!
