Its gotta be in the photographers spare hand or in someones hand behind the photographer..
Thats the ONLY way I can get my dog to stay 'focused'
towards the camera long enough for me to compose, ...focus... and take a shot.

There is another way. I sometimes hold a doggy treat in my hand then quickly snap a shot. Works everytime.
