Yep. Noticed this often. I have had stuff delivered from Hong Kong and the US quicker than from Sydney or Melbourne. One parcel I sent took 8 days to go from here to Wagga Wagga. Can drive there in an hour only 90k away

Interesting I'm in the boonies and I get parcels for my kids from
grandparents in NZ in about 4 days. Still I think it is a transit of
goods problem in OZ. I had a mirror ship from Taiwan it went via
2 countries, going through customs and being cleared and landed
in Sydney in about 2 days... took another 4 to ship to me 750kms
north.

regards,CS

I sent a parent a letter from school and it took nearly 2 weeks to get there and it didn't have to leave the city.

Well guys I have found that some items from overseas are certainly very fast, however can't say I have any problems with Aust Post, and I certainly have sent and received plenty of parcels.

I reckon they do a great job.

l would have to agree with Leon, in all the years l have used Aus Post only one missing item, and everything else arrives within a reasonable time.

The issue ir not about whether parcels are lost it's about the time it takes for them to deliver, I've never had things go astray nor have items sent from OS for that matter.

I sent a parcel from a US military base in the Middle East - delivered to Brisbane in 4 days.
My in-laws sent me a card a month ago, from 2 suburbs away, took 9 days.
I think half the problem is the various contractors who actually deliver the mail...

Everyone likes to have a dig at auspost... I used to be one of them... Then whilst living in america, I witnessed their postal system, and have to say that whilst auspost aren't by any means perfect, they are at a much higher standard that the US.

I too have had things take weeks to get a few hundred kms, and even lost registered items in transit, but these appear to be fairly rare happenings, and if registered, auspost do not put up a fight before paying out the insurance amount. If you can get your money back from the US postal system without taking it to court you're doing very well.

I have to say I have the highest regard for australia post..generally speaking they do a very fine job

the only time I ever lost something with Australia Post, I am sure it was a shonky seller on ebay

on the other hand I have had an ipod cover from Hong Kong take 6 weeks, and I know the seller shipped it on time because I saw the date posted!

I have been receiving the US version of Sky and telescope since 1978.
In 30 years of a magazine coming surface mail from Massachusetts
I think only 3 have never arrived. ( I think it now comes via a german
mail centre lately)
Many used to arrive with the clear plastic already opened, clearly
indicating good taste amongst postal workers .

Sometimes I used to get them in the wrong order...ie
December's then November's then October's issue.

I think that is a pretty good average for 30 years.
Probably the only frustrating thing was for a magazine to come
tens of thousands of miles only for the Aussie Postie to fold it in half
as he put it in the letterbox, ruining the glossy front page pic

Steve

What makes me really cranky is the "sorry we missed missed you" card in the mailbox when I´ve been home all day.

Although I have never lost anything in transit I also think Oz post sucks. I have ordered stuff from both the East and West coast of the USA and recieved the items in the stated 3 days. The tracking shows that the parcels have been half way around the world and they still manage it. Ditto from Hong Kong, Order on Sunday night, recieve Tuesday Morning.

My experience with Oz post has been very different. If you choose snail mail from Sydney to Perth it will take up to 9 working days to arrive. Even overnight express which is guaranteed to deliver overnight everytime ontime takes 3 working days (Must not have windows in the sorting rooms). I recently bought a Q guider and QHY8 out of melbourne which were posted express and both took 3 days to get here. I don't know if it is the mail service itself or the contractors they hire to deliver but something has to change. Maybe a bit of competition might improve things???

piskers me off too Geoff - no end

they come around 8am - shove the card in the letterbox - then you have to wait till after 2pm to go to the PO to pick it up

i just hope i catch them doing it one day
maybe i should start sending myself parcels

I've had fairly good service from Aust. Post. My only problems have been:
- two registered packages have gone missing for long lengths of time, been covered under the insurance and then some time later turn up at the destination but damaged.

- the place I work at often gets the "sorry we missed you" cards in the letterbox outside even when the office is open all day.

Other than that, quite reliable consistent delivery within AU and overseas.

Roger.

I've had the "Sorry we missed you" card with non-registered parcels and have had registered parcels dumped at the door when no-one's home...

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. I was sitting on the upstairs front veranda one day when the courier turned up, jumped out of his van and popped the notice in the letter box and drove off. He'd already had it written out!!!

I raced downstairs, jumped in my car, which was parked in the driveway next to the letterbox!!! and chased after him. When I caught up to him a couple of streets away he swore blind that he came up to the door, rang the doorbell, knocked on the door and waited for an answer!!!!!
