Lavender Bug

This is first light for my new (2nd hand) Canon 20d.
It's a crop from a larger image.
The only lens I have at the moment is a 17-55mm. So I can't get really up close and personal yet. Still, it's good enough to get me started.

Wow, this is great Jeanette, how you've managed to freeze this bug in flight and achieve perfect focus on it. I've tried this a number of times with bees and it's not easy

Great piccie Jeanette, that was captured beautifully!!!

I wonder what species of hover fly that is??

I'd like to be able to get those lenses that keep both the background and foreground in focus....that'd be excellent!!!

Well done JJJ, those Hover flies are so skitish they make a tough target.

Jeanette, there's a photography competition being run by Better Photography magazine in which you can win a Sony a200 camera kit as the prize for several categories of piccie. I think you should enter because after seeing this piccie, I think you're good enough to win. If you want to enter (or even just have a look), here's the address...
