Hi All, well I processed up all the avis from this morning.
I've shown a range over nearly an hour in the image below. As I feared it looks like the first was as good as it got with OTA seeing deteriorating throughout the session I think because of a sharp dip in temp just before the dawn... not sure how to deal with that as it would have been a bit fussy to pull out the camera and put in the cat cooler for 10min or so; probably would have lost a half hour in the process.
Anyway, you can see the GRS scooting off stage right in these followed by it's smaller sibling.
An animated gif of the sequence would look nice! Did you get Io?

And yes I did get IO, but I always have had a problem with colour and alignment with the moons using the DMK. I never seem to be able to get a combined colour view. Always looks like a false colour blob. Any suggestions? Maybe if I just try and process on IO and leave jupiter out?
Yes - process them both independantly and recombine them in post-processing.
Io moves so fast that it will almost always end up with colour fringing if processed while aligning on Jupiter and not Io.
For animations, I bought Jasc Software Animation Shop 3. It's brilliant!

I could sure use something like that. I have been using the online picasion which allows you to upload 3 or 4 images to creat a GIF that you can then save.
Does the Jasc Animation shop have a feature that allows you to align the individual images of the animation?
It does let you move each frame to register them against each other properly.
I use photoshop for that first - I copy each image as a new layer onto a new image. I then blink on and off each layer and use the move tool to align each layer with respect to the one beneath it.
I then use the "export layers to files" function in photoshop to save the layers as TIFF files. I then open the TIF's in Animation Shop to produce the animation.
Have you considered submiting your images to ALPO and the guys that take measurements of all the spots, features and disturbances of Jove?
Hi John, Thought about it Yes, done anything about it, no. I guess these days I'm such an infrequent imager its hardly worth it, and I find myself leaning more toward the aesthetics of the images more than their science content... you?

Rob, grab a copy of the GIMP, it's free :-) google will tell you how to do animated gifs.

Mike have you tried using the blending option "Difference" instead. You might find it much quicker.

Potentially, but the layers are different. Depending on the seeing and transparency with each image taken, Jupiter can be quite a different shape altogether, let alone the detail on the disc which has of course rotated between frames.
I tried a tip from Bird and got the best avi and stacked up amuch larger number of frames per colour channel... 900 for each which is baout half what I took. Also tried resampling via Mitchell in registax to 150%.
Maybe a bit more detail brought out now in Red Spot Jnr
