Australia Post - what a waste of space!

Parcel after parcel just does not get delivered. The last one - well they managed to get the 'We missed you' slip into the Post box but when I went to pick the item up 2 hours later - sorry - we lost it - ah well too bad.... My only recourse - lodge a complaint but sorry - no compensation.

You just have to love untouchable monopolies!

Cheers

I feel your pain, David.

Here's my personal favourite: Opening my letterbox to find the trusty ol' "We tried to deliver a parcel today, but unfortunately you were not home to take delivery. Please visit the Post Office to pick up your parcel".

Funny thing is...on a number of occasions I've actually been home all day when they've allegedly tried to make a delivery and left this note! No knock on the door...nada...zip...nudding!!! I have a dog that goes bonkers anytime anyone gets within 20 metres of the front door. It also didn't hear a knock

Onya Aussie Post. Onya.

Don't know what you guys are complaining about, to date, and it has been many years, I have not had one problem with Australia post, or any other post, may it be from the states, or anywhere,

Their service has been brilliant, all the time, every time, I can not praise them highly enough.

oh I know what they are complaining about.
So far in the last 6 months 5 parcels gone missing. I am sure there's a sneaky little clepto mailman who's tea leafing anything he thinks he might like in our area.

Not had a lot of trouble with them over the years either. They lost a small package a few months back and one from the USA about 18 months ago which I was a bit miffed about as it contained some rare model kits. But on the whole been pretty good with deliveries.

A few years ago a golfer came knocking on the door with a parcel he found on the golf course.... No idea how Australia post managed to deliver a parcel to a piece of grass on the golf course a kilometer away instead of our letter box Kudos to the honest golfer that went to the effort of picking it up and delivering it

Could be worth getting some advice on that one Dave .AFAIK from many years back in the PO the parcels were all handled by contractors .
They sure wern't employees of australia post as I recall ..If you still have the m.u.s I'd be talking to the local divisional office and asking where is the package ?..Local post office managers are a sorry bunch mostly who don't like to make waves .I think our local delivery contracter Did get a bunch of parcels stolen out of his van once because he didn't lock it when he went into
an office block to make a delivery ..Aus post is great I find but a lot of what comes to your door dosn't have much to do with them as such ..buy insurance for your parcels !!!

My fear is that there is a thief at the local PO (contracted service I believe). Everything marked from the states in the last 4 months has gone missing (Amazon mainly) I didn't worry too much since Amazon refunded me and it could have gone to ground anywhere - but when the last one failed to show after they dropped in the card (and it was a signature pickup) I'm starting to wonder.

You should try the China Post service.
When I lived in China, EVERY letter / package I received had been opened & inspected.
The postal workers make a bit extra by taking anything of value from the packages & letters.

In China it is against the law to post cash.
In the US it is not.
The Chinese postal workers assume that every foreigner in China is American & their rellies in the US post cash to the rellies in China.
So of course, if the letter turns up with no cash, you have absolutely no comeback.
Why; Cause it's illegal to post cash in China. Doesn't matter that it was posted by someone in US who does not know the Chinese law..

In my experience AP is rubbish. Lost parcels but the real bummer was when I purchased a laptop from WA and had it insured. When it arrived I thought a great screen saver was installed as it had a "cracked" screen. Only problem was that it was cracked. When I went to claim the insurance they refused it because they claimed it was a fragile item. Guess what dopey?, that why I damned well insured it.
Anyway the people in AP refused to pay up until I contacted the Ombudsman in Victoria and said why were they not honouring their insurance when they clearly knew it a laptop as stated on the declaration. They accepted the money for insurance quickly enough. Eventually they coughed up the money for the lap top after a judgement from the Ombudsman office.
Never forget even with this bunch of cretins that as the consumer you have rights that trhey have to deliver on. If AP uses contractors they are effectively employees of that service. Stand up against AP crappy service/ploys and complain and take your complaints either to the small claims court or the Ombudsman. Then they take notice.
Rant off.

Hi Dave, have you considered a PO box. I had one for about 12 years and have never had a problem.

Some companies wont deliver to PO boxes though, I cant understand why with that one, I've paid them the money so they should send the item to where I want them too in my books.

Cheers

Our local post sorters are morons, they routinely deliver mail for other addresses to us and deliver our mail to other people, including important stuff like BAS forms ! Same problem with "missed you" when we are home. So far been lucky with parcels, though one registered parcel just sat around PO for weeks until I contacted the company and went up to PO to demand they look for it(they found it.) Also found stuff from OS arrives faster than stuff from AUS .Strange how these guys supposedly work for US taxpayers, but simply don't give a damn.

I have used AustraliaPost for two decades in my business and in that time have sent, literally, thousands of parcels and packages. The only time I have had problems (very few) was when I didn't register them. In most of those cases I honestly suspect that the recipient was 'having me on'.

A caveat: I had one parcel go missing a few years back (for which I was fully recompensed) but I'd sheet the responsibility for that debacle to the people to whom I sent the thing; they had given me an address from which they had relocated some two (2) years prior to our dealing (don't ask, I don't know either).

So I salute the massive majority of staff at AustraliaPost. As far as I'm concerned they do a fantastic job. There have been times when I have shuddered at the cost involved but a quick reality check like "what would that have cost me if I'd sent it by courier?" sorts that out posthaste.

I have been getting letters addressed to address in different streets, getting “we missed you “cards while I was home and recently lost two parcels from USA. Not happy.
