Hi Guys,

I notice that on a Celestron Nexstar SE 4,5,6 the OTA can be removed from the mount. I was looking at getting a second hand one as a cheap grab and go mount for my Televue 85.

Does anyone know if this would work regards clearances and so on? Also does anyone know if the mounts on the various SE's 4, 5, 6 inch are all the same; only the OTA being different?

Hi Paul,

From what I know, the 4SE & 5SE share a smaller mount with a built-in-wedge and the 6SE & 8SE share a larger mount without a wedge.

One of the reasons I bought my 8SE was because you were able to interchange different OTA on the mount making it very versatile.

I'm not quite certain of the exact dimensions of the TV 85 scope but I think your best option is to go for the larger SE mount.
