Now while I personally didn't win today (you have to be in it to win it) I do know, through a little birdy, that due to a sudden rush on astronomical oriented purchases this afternoon straight after the running of the MC, that some amateur astronomers did have a win.
So who won and then went out straight away and spent it all on astronomy gear.
didn't even watch/listen too/care about teh race today....so no winnings for me!!! though i am in the throes of purchasing some gear....with the help of the australian tax office
I forgot the race was on, and don't even know who won. Don't really care either
Never been interested in horse racing.
I'm with ballaratdragons here. No interest at all.
As the rest of the company shutdown to watch the race, I walked up to Bintel and
bought an EOS T-ring and a prime focus adapter for my ED80.
So my C8 wouldn't feel left out, I bought an adapter for it as well.

Not to interested in the racing industry..I read an article which mentioned how many horses get born into, churned out ,of each year in this buisness
and it was staggering not many make it and most who don't ..arn't going to end there days as a kids pony on a 5 acre block somewhere.
On a lighter note the melbourne cup would look good as a chariot race imo
There are a few ex race horses that end up having full lives (literally) once their racing career is over.
The most athletic and sound horses get snapped up pretty quick by the showjumping/eventing fraternity. Our thoroughbreds are sought after world wide in this sport.
But race horses are hot blooded creatures and are not suitable for beginners. My old boy is one of the exceptions, placid and unflappable.
So that leaves the other 95% to whatever fate has in store for them.
Rather sad isn't it.
i always have a flutter on the MC and my lucky number is 6 so with ten bucks each way i am a winner but its been a long time between drinks . i didn't get to see the race was at work and have not had time to cash in ticket yet
I lost $5 on the company sweepstake, but a young graduate in this office had a trifector and scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd He spent $12 and won over $3000.Good on him I say Only trouble he thinks a car is more important than a 'scope - cant see why.......
last year i spent $5 on a box trifecta and won ,that paid for my 400d this year i thought i would have another go, picked 11,12,24 missed by first place,oh well no 40d
