M31 - Andromeda Galaxy

Here is my attempt tonight at M31.

This is the first light of my DSI Pro hooked up to my Sigma 70-300mm lens using my new Mogg adapter.

This is 59 x 4 second exposures with the camera mounted on a fixed tripod. Stacking done in Iris and Photoshop used to adjust levels.

Focal length was approx 200mm. I didn't go to 300mm because the lens gets very stiff after 200mm and I kept losing Andromeda due to the camera moving.

Well Andrew, that's certainly quite a good image for a fixed imaging device!

I was going to say "why not go longer than 4 seconds?" until I read "on a fixed Tripod".

Even M110 shows up well

Thanks Ken. If I get my motorised barndoor mount fixed ready for tomorrow night then I might have another go with tracking and exposures longer than 4 second. My barndoor mount is undergoing a refurbishment and major strengthening after my daughter broke it a few months ago by leaning on it.

Very nice capture Andrew, it's a pity you restricted down to 4 seconds exposures it has the makings of a good image.

Hope you get the barndoor fixed soon.

Cheers

Nice one Andrew, the only thing i hate about this object is that i will never be able to image it at my place, the bloody shed, and a neighbours tree is in the way, well done, for such short exposures.

Thanks everyone. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised (OK I was really very excited) by what I got from 4 second subs.

The barndoor mount is now fixed and I am now waiting for a clear dark night to do a full test.

Andrew you are a hero mate I salute you.

Your efforts with relatively basic equipment must have many newcomers deciding to have a go.

Your efforts are indeed inspirational you deserve a medal.
It is wonderful to see you are enjoying it ...as it seems to get painful for some in the quest for better gear etc.

Fantastic:
