Lunar eclipse practice

Just practicing for the lunar eclipse. The teleconverter works great except for some fringing I am getting which I have removed. This is an 800 pixel crop of a much larger image. The full size image is giving me too much pin holing. I have to try and find out what the optimum f number is for this new configuration. Quite happy with the image though, just want to get it right before the event.

That's a very nice image Paul, but what is "pin holing"?

Cheers

Actually I mean't Pin cushioning. Each zoom lens has an optimum focal length and f stop for its construction. In the 80-400 VR Nikon lens I am using the optimum is f11 at 400mm. Now that I am using a 2x teleconverter I am not sure which way to go. I suspect that the range will be close to f 5.6 at 800mm. The reason I say this is that the lens in its native form tends to get ban pin cushioning at around f22 at 400mm I even found that at f18 last night I was starting to get some.

Thanks Dennis for the comment.

It's a nice image Paul, the only thing is that you need to play with the levels to bring out the detail since you're shooting at f/11, it looks a little dark.

Thanks for the explanation Paul. Good luck with the experiments and perhaps more importantly, clear skies to all of Australia, and NZ of course!

Cheers

All lenses exceed at around F7.1-F18. With the teleconverter you may want to go down to about F11-F15.
