Frustrating this Astronomy hobby!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
Well have woken up at 3:30am for a week now trying to get a look at M31.
Look out the window and not a cloud in the sky, so out i go and set up the scope. A quick look at M42 cause it's everybody's fave object and it's dissappearing right before my eyes. If it's not cloud it's fog and i'm getting Peeved!!!!.
AGHHH Schmuck it all!!, well back to bed.
One of these nights i'll get to see the damn thing.
Like the title says " Frustrating this Astronomy hobby "
Cheers all,
Duncan

Yes, the most gloriously clear night in Melbourne for weeks, and it's last night. With work and other stuff to do, I got an hour out in the back yard with binoculars only. Better than nothing.

Dare I mention the forecast for Snake valley (Ballarat) for Friday night:-
"Chilly; considerable evening cloudiness, then periods of rain late. Winds from the W at 14 km/h."

Hi Duncan,
Hope you get to see it soon mate. The weather sure is an unpredictable mistress, I think she does it on purpose some times. Lets you set everything up and gives you a teaser just to call in the rolling clouds or fog etc and has a good chuckle while you pack it all up again. Keep at it and all your effort will make the prize all that more enjoyable I'm sure.

LOL.
Always the way isn't it?
You'll either grow stronger from the experience, or you can give up and go mad. Your choice.
Personally, I alternate between the two.

The other night, Iwoke up at 3am due to the dog barking at the stone curlews, looked out of the front door, and there she was in all her glory.... Andromeda is certainly something to behold.
I thought of setting up the dob....but common-sense prevailed and the binos were used instead.
Promised myself a session with the dob, last night.........and the clouds rolled in.

One thing I've noticed about astronomy is that it makes you a weather watcher, I had a glorious night last night, 3 hours of crystal clear viewing, ice on my scope but not a drop of dew anywhere, I rate it as my best viewing night ever, simple as that, only reason I stopped was it got too cold and I had a thing called work the next day.

It can certainly send you potty Duncan.
I think the worst bit is when it clears again, 5 minutes after you have packed everything away

Duncan, the best thing to do is set up the scope befor you go to bed and put a cover over it, then if it is cloudy when you get up just look out the window if it's no good back to bed, or if it's great your off and running.

There are worst hobbies.
Someone told me that they had built a $12,000 radio controlled plane and crashed it, the whole thing was a total writeoff. He changed hobbies after that. He is now into radio controlled boats.

I think the o'l bino's is the best instrument for M31, my 20x80 triplets seem
just right. M31 is too big in my scope with my lowest power ep.

Guys when i bought my TV 85 in Scotland. I waited 6 weeks to get a look through it and only got 1 night and then it was cloudy for another 4 weeks. By that time summer was in and it hardly got dark even at 11:00 at night i could see for about 1000 into the dark with my eyes. It was like twilight for about 3 hours and started to get light again.
I will never complain again. But i do like the fact that here in Australia it gets dark early in summer and winter.
