Large Prom Yesterday (Animation)

The sky turned a strange blue colour for a few hours yesterday, and I managed to get a few shots of the sun using my Lunt 40mm. The seeing was bad and it was very windy (obviously) but I'm counting it as a win. Sadly, the sky reverted back to its normal appearance by dark so no need to dust down the other gear for another few weeks/months/years.

Anyway, I made an animation from the images, which covers 2 hours, and can be viewed here.

AutoStakkert: Stack best 25% of 500 frames (120 fps every 2 min, 5 min and 10 min)

Certainly a most dramatic presentation of the external fires and Proms!

Did you see the sun today Gary?...some of that material in your image now appears to have expelled and is well out away from the surface

Hi Ross,
It was cloudy (on the 19th)..but yes, you can see from my animation (18th) the prom was starting to detach so I classed it as F type. I have only ever managed to capture one that was completely detached once (although the quality is not great it is here).

Liked the animations, really gives an insight as to how dynamic the sun is. May have to give it a try someday when I have the spare time and patience.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, give them a go they are worth doing (especially for me as my 40mm images are not so great without the movement of an animation). Its also worth changing the intervals to see the different prom activity and if you manage over an hour you'll see the disk rotate too.

I noticed something interesting on the GONG Ha website.

If you play the images you can see the large prom extended further out than they were able to capture.
