For sale is a 25" f4 Galaxy Optics newtonian mirror and 6" secondary. Both have enhanced coatings and are still in their shipping containers, yet to see first light. They were purchased many years ago with the intent to upgrade my 20" scope upon retirement. Both primary mirrors were made by John Hudeck whom I got to know when visiting his optical workshop in Buena Vista to collect the 20”.
Along the way a primary mirror cell was acquired from Lightspeed telescopes a Colorado based company. Three of the mirror support pads have attached adjustable counterweights that provide a small amount of pressure depending on the amount and angle the mirror is being tilted. Apparently it is similar in design as to the Mt Wilson telescope. It cost $1260US plus import duties. I don’t recall the cost of the secondary holder which was also from the USA.
The aluminium ring, cast by a local foundry and machined on a giant lathe was to be used as a top ring. All up it cost $760.
Now retired life has taken us on a different direction and so it is time to let these go. The fact the project did not get off the ground is not an issue as I had a 20" scope to image with and in 2018 became a part owner of a 30" scope.
A 25" mirror & oversized secondary with enhanced coatings today landed in Aust would cost around 12k plus a years wait. Asking 8k for the pair. The spider is free while the other components are open to offers. Note that I am not prepared to ship these but am willing to drive a reasonable distance (part of the way) to effect a sale.
