Venus Crescent 11th August

A surprise and welcome cloud gap gave me enough time to capture Venus just 7 arc mins from closest approach here. Separation was 7 deg 47 arc mins.

Quite pleased with the outcome given only 4 inches of aperture and 1600mm focal length - Vixen ED103S plus 2X barlow and ASI385 OSC. Best 2K of 50K frames.

My cardboard, wood and tape Sun shield worked a treat.

Excellent shot! That’s come out really clear and well defined. I’m not so sure a large aperture is a great advantage for a shot like that- I think a mid-size frac is about perfect and your result certainly seems to back that

Nice work Steve! I was also imaging on the 11th, tough challenge with the small separation.
