30th Dec Solar images

30th Dec.

A fine day allowed me to take some images of the Sun.

First image is at 540 nm wavelength to show the location of the sunspots.

Second image shows the Sun at 656 nm (H alpha) wavelength to show the flares, prominences etc. focusing on AR 3176 on NE sector.

Third image shows the Sun at 656 nm focusing on the SW sector and AR 3172. Notice the white flare around AR3172.

All images are single exposures with a Canon 550d camera attached to a solar telescope.

Thanks for viewing.

Nice images again John. It was a good day for observing with plenty of features to look at. You've caught the new AR3180 coming in on the NE with two large sun spots. Those eastern proms are very impressive!
