Jupiter and Saturn Thursday 29 September 2022

It was unexpectedly clear last night. We weren't even rushed by incoming clouds so had time to observe Io transit off the limb of Jupiter while the GRS rotated in. We're not totally happy with the Jupiter images as we didn't completely nail the focus. After taking a lot of video we found that the focus was just slightly off.

Great work that’s a fine set! It’s hard to see if it’s focus or just poor seeing -sometimes it’s impossible to nail fine focus if the seeing is off so I tend to adjust after every capture just in case i can do a bit better. That’s probably overkill but hey at least I know for sure…

Thanks David and Steve.
You are right Dave, focusing in bad seeing is definitely a challenge. Unfortunately in this case it was just a little bit of an oops as we took too many videos without re-checking the focus.
