NGC3372 - Eta Carinae

This image has quite a bit of noise but contains a lot of detail in the nebulosity compared to other images I have taken. Still retricted to short exposures as I ordered a illumnated reticle from Bintel to do drift aligning and they are out of stock for the next 2-3 weeks.

details : 200mm SW Newt, EQ6, 350D with MPCC.

Not a bad 20sec shot Steve...well done, looks like you pushed as much detail as you can out of it... Have you tried stacking 10-20 together? should give you a nice smooth image and more detail..

I'm not that familiar with the stacking process Gary. I tried loading a full sized image into Registax once and it didn't seem to like it. Seems to work fine with smaller files. I probably should read the manual but how many of us do that ay !

It can be hard with the moon around to keep the noise levels down and achieve a nice balance of constrast, even if you have long exposure times.

Use DeepSkyStacker - http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html. You need to ensure that you have darks as well as the actual images of the object your photographing (called lights). The images (lights) need to be in RAW format.

I agree deepsky stacker is the way to go .

I did 30 at 30 seconds and probably one of my best goes at EC and it was on the run whilst doing a better polar align .

I have not stacked in RAW so I am glad I did not know it would not stack unless RAW formate .. Because I asked it to stack in large formate and it did .

I have managed stacks without any darks and cleaned them up in Noiseworks .

My point is it seems a forgiving program .

Anyways great image but please try stacking a number of your results as suggested above...they should be very detailed if you can manage so much with the shot posted.

The detail is excellent.

Although from the looks of our weather forecast for this week it will be a while till I do some more imaging.
