Our dead air conditioner

Hi Guys, one of our air conditioner in the studio has been idle for a long time maybe two years, not quite sure as we were not the last people to use it.

Anyway the switches are on, the fuses are fine and yet no power to the unit.

The remote was a bit dicky and the batteries had some corrosion but i got that sorted and lights up fine with time date and all the necessary functions ready for use, but it wont turn it on.

Any suggestions please

Thanks in advance

PS, i have read the manual from cover to cover and followed any troubleshooting suggestions to no avail

Leon

Hi Leon,

Sorry to hear about your aircon woes, especially in this hot weather.

If the Air-conditioner is a hardwired unit then an electrician or refrigeration mechanic needs to investigate the reason for the non-start, be it: no power, wiring issue, start relay fault, low refrigerant, compressor overload protector, etc...

If the Air-conditioner plugs in to a power point, verify that the power point has power by testing the power point using another electrical appliance like a lamp. You could also try operating the Air-conditioner from another power point with a suitable extension cord.

Best
JA

When you say that there is no power to the unit, how do you know that?
Does it have an LED display on the unit which doesn't light up, or is it that nothing happens when trying to use the remote even when the LED is lit?

Have you tried hitting the 'reset' button on the ac unit itself?

Not on the remote but, if you lift the front panel on the wall unit (inside the house) you should find a reset button, worth a try..

Also worth trying is the on/off button on the unit itself; it's still possible that your remote is not actually working despite appearances

Cheers

I wonder if it’s something as simple as a blown fuse in the base unit or even in the fuse box / meter box for that circuit mate.

Hi Leon,

All good (pre-fridgie) advice below. Here's another:

Turn on your mobile phone camera and look at the remote control emitter. Press buttons and look for the purple light in your phone camera preview screen. No blinking, perhaps dead remote (depending how good the IR cut filter on your phone is).

Go outside, and turn off the power isolator to the outdoor unit for an hour or 2. Flick it back on and try again. Whilst you're out there, sniff around the outdoor unit for dead (fried) gecko.

Does the indoor unit blink any LEDs briefly? My Parent's 9kw fujitsu did nothing but blink a cyptic code briefly. Google said "#2 outdoor fan error". Sure enough, bearing was seized. Changed the fan and off they went.

Good luck.

All good suggestions, Raymo i suspect there is no power to the unit as there is suppose to be a light on the unit when it is switched on.
Yes it is hard wired however thank you for your suggestions i will work with them and see how it goes.
I do think it actually maybe the remote, as i said earlier it was pretty ordinary in the battery compartment, and after a good clean it did turn on (the remote that is) but may not be sending a signal to the unit, don't know, will investigate though.

Well as it turns out it was the remote and it seems that it was not actually sending a signal to the unit.
I just ran my finger across the sensor, grabbed it and jiggled it a bit, ( the remote that is) and pressed the button and away it went, no problems.

So thank you for your kind suggestions.

Hi Leon,

If you need to, you’ll probably be able to buy a generic replacement remote control on ebay for less than 20 bux. I’ve done this for several appliances and the new remotes have lasted years - just like an OEM one 🥳😝
