PodCasts

Team, I’m not sure if you Astro Fiends like podcasts. I really enjoy them. Listen in the car, in the observatory, getting off to sleep.

These are my current faves, thought I might share/start a chat about them and maybe get some other suggestions…

These are Spotify links because that’s how I listen to them, but ive included the blog title. No particular order, but IMC and AWTY are my personal favourites.

ARE WE THERE YET?
https://open.spotify.com/show/1biK1q...rA&dl_branch=1

SPACE NUTS
https://open.spotify.com/show/3zSV4W...yw&dl_branch=1

THE INFINITE MONKEY CAGE
https://open.spotify.com/show/6Ijz5u...-A&dl_branch=1

UNIVERSE TODAY BY FRASER CRAIN
https://open.spotify.com/show/5h0Pr0...ow&dl_branch=1

Hope you enjoy them and can recommend any others

Cheers

I had never listened to a pod cast but seeing "Atheists" in your post promted me to google to see if they were getting a hiding and happily find out they are promoting atheistism..but the point is the one I started listening to at Scathing Atheist was my first pod cast ever... so I am happy it was not a christian bashing atheist thing...so they are what they say...Scathing Atheists...but yes my first pod cast and I like the concept.

I was an atheist once but no longer, nor am I a theist or agnostic ....my way of giving the matter the recognition it deserves, none,... with a refusal to include anything in my vocabulary that hints at the existence of such fantasy, an effort to totally ignore the intrusion superstition and fantasy still makes into what we call civilised society...I just dislike all fiction really...it is such a waste of time given there is so much real stuff to learn about and so many stories of real people and real events...why make up nonsense for entertainment or worse still to fashion morality.

But I do like the concept of the pod cast and expect there would be all sorts of material ...I like all sorts of subjects so long as they relate to science or history...it was by studying history I realised just how detrimental various superstitions have been to the human race.

But yes I think I will look for science pod casts and history, and by history I include paleontology and by science I include cosmology

Hi,

I have been listening to Astronomy Cast. This has been broadcasting for over 10 years and there are hundreds of 'casts in the backlog. It's a weekly 30 minute talk.

http://www.astronomycast.com/

Here are the last 10 episode titles

Ep. 610: What is Required to Confirm Alien Life: Non-sentient Edition
Ep. 609: The Benefits of Volcanoes
Ep. 608: NASA Perseverance – The First 100 Days
Ep. 607: InSight and Marsquakes
Ep. 606: Time Dilation – Skipping Through Time
Ep. 605: Sounding Rockets
Ep. 604: Balloon Astronomy
Ep. 603: The New Colors of Radio – Getting Longer
Ep. 602: The New Colors of Gamma Rays – Getting Shorter
Ep. 601: Unexpected Light Pollution

The funny thing is I always have to listen twice. I listen to each episode when it first comes out, in bed just after I turn off the lights and within 10 minutes I am asleep...

One of my favourite podcasts in the SA, was when they mentioned Ken Ham of the Noah’s ark theme park. He tried to claim insurance for water damage after a heavy downpour and it was knocked back because it was an “ act of god “

Thanks Zuts,

Will definitely give that one ago…those episodes are usually the make up of the podcasts I posted.

Alex, The Infinite monkey cage, covers all sorts of ground, including Archeology/paleontology/anthropology etc etc. It’s from the beeb! And hosted by Brian Cox an astrophysicist. But the panelists are from the field of discussion and some comedians are thrown in on the panel as well, makes for a great show.

There was one about space and isolation, with a panel of Astronauts which was amazing. They often have superbrains who are currently working on exciting and famous endevours.

Are we there yet is dedicated to that sort of stuff with interviews from amazing people doing hands on stuff. There was a great episode on the JWST. Something (like Hubble) close to a lot of our hearts

Is that factual? I did not think insurance companies employed "an act of god" these days...I certainly wish it to be true...Kam Ham..the Ark..and no one sees a problem...why anyone would believe any of it really is a concern.

Hi Hemi
Thank you.
I downloaded the history of rock one..I started listening and they were just playing rock music and I felt disappointed until someone explained it was about geology and I felt very happy.
I will save it for somewhere rather than listen now...
But thanks it shows promise.
