Weather Stations? (Davis Vantage Pro2)

Do any any of you own a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 weather Station with standard radiation shield?

I'm looking at purchasing this model and am wondering if you felt it would of been better to get the fan aspirated model?

Is it necessary to still enclose the sensors in a Stevenson screen or does the radiation shield basically take care of this?

Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome but within my price range, 1k 1.4k I believe the Davis are my best option.

Hi John

While I don't own a Vantage Pro 2, I have run a Peet Bros, Ultimeter 2000 for the last 5 years, it has the standard radiation shield and hangs unprotected under my tipping bucket rain guage. The Temperature and Humidity are accurate when I compare the readings of my 2 closest Official Weather Stations, Narooma and Montigue Island. I don't use any type of Stevenson Screen at all.

The new Peet Bros weather station is the Ultimeter 2100.

I run my readings back to an old computer running Weather Display.

Cheers

Well after having this up and running (Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2) for a few weeks, now I can say if you're in the market for a semi professional weather station I wouldn't go past one of these.

The ease of use, build, finish and accuracy of the instrument is something to be believed.

I don't know what you thought of yours Phil? But I'm more than impressed with mine.

Good luck with the new system, John. Are you going to set up a weather site on the 'Net? See my profile for mine.

Yes John, I will later down the track when I get another console that I can have permanently plugged into the computer for live updates.
Great site BTW I had looked at it before, Have you thought of submitting your data to NOAA. They are always looking for Citizen Weather Observers.

Right Here, Phil. I got the Wireless Vantage Pro2 with standard radiation shield, I'll add the Solar and UV sensors and run a lightening detector later on.
