GPS unit for the EQ6 mounts

Bought a new toy from Sirius Optical today. Yes I am a glutton for punishment, so I bought 2, one for me and one for my mate Alan!

see the details here

this is the next best thing since sliced bread for these mounts

YAY finally they have come out with them.... The EQ Mod design also has GPS function, but you have to use a GPSr with Nema output, pretty much the same thing.

This little unit will make the new Synscan v3.1 Plus easier to setup in remote locations, well worth the purchase I think. Thanks Houghy for posting...

I wish, I wish there was a generic standard so any device like this could be interfaced to any mount / controller with a GPS function. I wouldn't mind GPS for my CG5 - I just don't like the cost Celestron wish to charge for something that is really a Google Earth plus accurate time piece!

Would not a standard NEMA GPS Receiver work with the mount. I am sure they are much cheaper to buy than this unit. For that matter would such a unit work with Mead LX90's and LX200's?

If its like the StarGPS for theLX90 it just plugs into the hand unit, Id be surprised if it works on V2 controllers, but I hope it does.

I dont think it will work with the v2.05 Ving
As far as I am aware only V3 controllers have the function of GPS it was one of the additions that was requested to be added while they were doing the research on the v3 controller.

Ving, I noticed there is a new GPS menu option on the V3 handset that was not there on the 2.5. It is unlikely that it would work on the 2.5, as the handset would need the software to support getting the coordinates from the GPS unit. However you could always contact Ian James from Tasco - he has been helpful to me.
