Looking for gold

I have tried a few pans with sucess in that I found something as there is still gold to be found around Drake if you want to have a pan.

Anyways I am wondering if others might like to share their experiences.

There's plenty still out there Alex. My hobby (a.k.a. obsession) before astronomy was prospecting in the Victorian golden triangle (Ballarat to Bendigo).
You couldn't make a living off what I found over the years but I have sold a few thousand worth of gold off and have a bit under an ounce left at home.
Overall though I would have spent more on travel and 'toys' than I actually found.

I was once invited on a metal detecting trip to outback WA with a group of guys that had been doing it for years. Basically they picked a patch of ground a 1000m x 500m and detected it.....then had a bulldozer take of the top layer of soil and they detected it again.....they kept doing this for their 4 week trip. I didn't go with them but from what I was told they more or less always found enough gold to cover their 'costs' and sometimes came away with a bit of a profit each.

Sell the scope mate.......there's a fortune to be made! hahahahaha

Marcos Ambrose when he was racing in the USA with NASCAR, on his days off, he went gold panning in the streams around Carolina. He said you could easily get an ounce of gold per day if you worked hard at it. At $US1300 per ounce not a bad earner.

Hi Jon
I met a guy who did it like a day job for 12 months using an illegal 6 inch dredge (but under the water is not the only or best place☺) and he ended up with a pound for his years long day job...no sickies☺ which when he did it years ago was probably what he get if he was digging dirt for the council..same work same wages.
I am planing on having a pan next time up North if I can get someine to come and dig for me☺
But I have been watching the various "gold" youtube videos...I like Dan Hurd and Jeff Williams but I have learnt a lot.
What surprised me is the folk hunting gold...You should check out high banking for gold on Alaskan beaches...but in USA it seems there are a lot of semi comercial miners and most stuff is under a claim.
I have access to land on the rocky river which would be perfect but at the moment I cant work out out to get to it...I was thinking one of those 8 wheel off road things...mmm maybe a catapilar tractor....thats my current missiin how to get down there...horse? tractor...helicopter☺ now thats an idea...just cover charter with the gold you dig up...maybe go there two weeks and see if one could make a profit...mmm I need a furry hat☺

I am somewhat convinced that with a high banker ( a type of portable small gold sluice) and a reasonable location you could do two ozs every week...finally it is about how many tons of material you can put thru...so 5 grams a ton would be poor but easily achievable but 12 to 15 grams a ton would be nice...so how many ton can you feed thru a day ....anyways a high banker will give you buckets of pay dirt which you still have to process....via a gold cube and then thru a "blue wheel" ...its a process ☺ .or if its good pay dirt sell it on the net as some folk do...so if you want to pan but cant leave the office you buy pay dirt ...its offerred in Australia...maybe I should get a packet and pan in the bath tub☺

Actually thinking it through old mate who said he only got a pound of gold must not have worked every work day.. or he got more than he admitted to...they think dredging is the way to go but I recond tons via a shovel on the flood plain where gold travels in flood behind rocks that sort of thing would produce more...

I am using the idea of going gold hunting as a sort of incentuve to fix my health lose weight eat right etc...
So its already paying ☺

Been there and done that to Alex and dug/panned my weekends away with very little success

I even joined the Miners Club of Ballarat and went out with them when i could , and even bought a $3000,00 detector, not a speck to be seen mate.

I just gave up and went to the Gold shop and bought myself a little nugget and sold the detector..

Look up 'Walbanker'......a design from an aussie guy. It was by far the best design I came across and pulled the most gold from the dirt I pumped through it.
A ton a day is a hell of a lot of work Alex. You have to remember every time you put the shovel in the ground under water and try to pull it out the water washes most of the dirt off. Best shovel I found for the job wasa trenching shovel with the high sides.
.......also digging in to a river bed full of rocks isn't fun.

Hi Leon
I tell you looking at the various youtube videos I am encouraged simply because they give excellent advice on where to look and how etc.
Here is a nice video ...Australian guy and he has some great videos.
https://youtu.be/UBhcuAl4UB8

The guys in the states make money thru their you tube channels. One guy I follow is jeff williams "ask Jeff Williams.com).

He is a character..at first he annoyed me but I now really like him...he has a dressed up skeleton that he talks to so he tries to be entertaining but he knows his stuff tellscyou this and that about geology.. I will try and put up one of his videos that is somewhat representative..but thinking about it he has a multi facetted act...one would not give you the picture..but he gets claims prospects and has built a little mine to show how you put in your carts air supports...U find it interesting..detecting...thats some thing I learnt..in a creek you use the metal detector not to find gild but lead fence wire nails whatever because you use that as an indicator where to pan...most people find the nail and think false alarm and move on...the detector wont pick up fine gold but you can find the places where gold settles...anyways Leon all that means is you can get a better metal detector get back into it..get out there with the camera ..fresh air etc...anyways this Jeff Williams ha paytreons??? Anyways its a system where folk pay him $10 a month or one off ..I am not sure...but he has a few folk paying him to do the videos...andche gives away gold and has guests for a dayir week I am not sure takes them out gets ore bringsvit bacj crushes ir pans it and the all get a vile of gold and a nice holiday...great holiday if you want to work in a little mine swe how its done...I will find one of those videos where he has guests as its interesting ...like commercial tv ....reality show☺ but watchable.
Man I gotta get to my spot ...all that gold just waiting for me to pick up...and I must put in some boxes for the gold to fall in when it floods...let naturecpile it up for me...damn might have to get a helicopter...U cant find out any facts about inclines that a 8 wheel can go up...there must be a club where they run them in a hill climb...mmmm my first race was a straight up the hill hill climb...anyways thats the current mission ... a track at 45 degrees that is wheel chair friendly...I see a youtube channel...send me money to get down the hill and find the gold.. in a wheel chair...well I dont need it now but what a great prop for a video☺

There is something about the idea of sending me money for me to do what I like to do appealing.
Alex

Great tip with the shovel.
The lady astrology who I menrioned here years ago has moved into my old place and has brought a fit young daughter...and I know of two other similar combinations so I think a nice day out for all of them looking for diamonds via my sluice box☺ splashing around in the rock pools ...what a nice day...I plan to just put the black sand in a big clear plastic bottle...3 liters U think...anyways you leave it invthe back of the car covered in water and the gold should appear onbthe bottom byvthe time you getvhow andcthe girls have put away the tools☺
But I have a spot for diamonds...fair dincum a real good prospect for them...and lesser stuff...at least good quatz but maybe amathist...thats only 30 kilometers away...no gold I think...but maybe I should check I have never got gold there but maybe I have just missed it.

I just want enough gold to make "busts" of my mother and father with such good production that they will always be worth many times as works of art than mere gold weight such that they make be given presence to the end of the world.

Maybe do one of myself...yes I like that...just imagine you would know not until hell frezes over your puss would be looked at by thevlast human...unless it got lost at sea...for example...but your face would last forever....cool.
Please send money so I can cast myself lfvin gold...lots as I have dcided to go the whole body...and my parents and mybe an army of gold soldiers like that first emporer.☺☺☺
I suppose thecreal crazy thing is if you set up a youtube channel and that funding thing...who knows but thete are a lot of people looking for something and weird seems to work...I know the giveaway is a gold statue of one of the fundies drawn out of a hat... mmm numbers how much gold to keep up with my ability to cast and form...hand finished of course...

Hey Leon
This is the guy I was talking about.

And Leon this one shows how to find gold with a detector in a dry creek.
I am surprised how small the gold is that sets off the detector.

I have a small sluice and some pans have the smallest flake to show for my one time, it is fun though ,the looking part without any expectations is part of it . Id like to go out drake way this year before it gets to cold and have another crack .

Many moons ago a mate of my old man's went to the creek in their property (near Omeo) and got gold with the first, and subsequent pans. It's out there, just don't expect to make your fortune with it. Good as a hobby that doesn't end up costing you money though.

Have a look at the videos on youtube they are very helpful on working out where to look.

I have over the last couple of days assembled some gear ... I hope to get some girls to help but if not I am going to see if I can manage by myself...but when they realise I am finding diamonds they will want to come☺
Thinking of making a sluice tomorrow...only out of ply wood ...if I wear it out because it is being sucessfully I will build something stronger...but I have the materials lying around and the car floor matts should be perfect to catch fine gold.

I have a jar of mercury which was supposed to have gold in it and have a system to remove the gold (if there really is any in there)...maybe tomorrow I will see if I can seperate the amalgam. ...

Hi Ben.
If there is gold suggest this...

On the flood plain see if they can work out where the gold may travel in a flood...panning may tell...anyways put in a couple of cement boxes so the top of the sides are at ground level ... hopefully they can clean out the box (boxes) after a flood and get decent gold...I want to do this ...if I can get down to the spot I have in mind.
I do have another spot..a waterfall and plnge pool...I want to pump it out and see whats in there...if decent gold then cement the bottom to make it easier to get next time round.

Been researching casting methods...doable with not much effort...

Alex

Hi Alex
All the best with your gold panning. If you do find some keep hold of it for the near future as now that the share markets have the wobbles the price of gold is going up. If the share markets tank it is likely that there will be a sharp increase in the gold price. Also as the price is set in $US and the $A is likely to depreciate wrt to the $US in a down turn, this will add to the boost of gold value in $A.

Hi Peter
Thanks for your input.
I think you have made some very good points.
I just had a pan in some sand up the back and assembled the materials to make a simple sluice...should have a heap of it real soon☺.
