DMK - ToUcam Saturn comparison

While I prefer the colour of the ToUcam image, the DMK just leaves it for dead for detail and clarity. These images were all taken over a 25 min period of moderate seeing using identical equipment apart from the cameras and colour wheel. Number of frames captured and initial processing is identical for all greyscale and ToUcam images. Final alignment and combining of the LRGB image was in ImagesPlus. Colour adjustments in PS.

The ToUcam image has had a slight despeckle done to it to soften grain and noise, after levels and colour adjustment, the DMK colour combine has only had levels and slight colour adjustment.

That's a telling difference right there, nice comparison Paul.

You'll work out the colour eventually.. it took me ages to get the colour right with the DMK. Part of it was due to the filters I was using (baader) which just didn't have the right transmission, and the red channel was too dim.

When I upgraded to Astronomik's, the colours came out much more balanced.

What program do you use to recombine? It's also worth noting that in AstraImage (if you use that to recombine), you can change the intensity of each channel to better match the colours... so if your blue channel was dim during capture, you can give it more intensity (eg: 0.9) during recombine to better match the histogram of each channel and get a better rendition when combined.

Thank Mike. I'll be looking for Astronomik filters eventually, but the baader will have to do in the interum.

I used both Astra Image and ImagesPlus to combine and found Images plus better for combining. Images Plus was more adaptable when working out weight of channel, though AI gives more control over image alignment. The hard part is I like Astra Images RC and ME useability more than IPs version. I'll get a workflow sorted sooner or later
