Solutions for low water pressure??

Thought I'd see if there were any people in the know on this....

We have just bought a house, which has piddly water pressure, likely due to galvanised water pipes.... Is it legal to have a small water tank supplied from mains that I then pump through my pipes??? Not connected to rainwater. Thought it would be easier than digging up the place!

Unfortunately this isn't always an easy answer without checking a few things first! If pressure and not volume is the problem, then an inline pressure pump can be installed without the need for a tank. But if the prob is both then a tank of reasonable volume plus a pump would be the likelyway to go. Not so sure what the water board is like down in Newcastle but the tank would need to have an air gap to disconnect it from the water supply in. Some of the new water saving rainwater/mains connected tanks meet these needs but again your local water authority might want overkill and insist on you having a testable double check valve installed at the meter.

Check that the meter cock is turn fully on and if the tap ware and shower roses have been fitted with water saving devices before spending any money. Sadly I can't offer much more without having a look, but sometimes it is a hole (pun) lot cheaper digging. Hope this was a little bit of help!

Cheers Brad

we had the same problem with our house when we bought it - it has gal pipes, replaced everything we could see and from the meter in copper. When it took 38 minutes to fill a 10 litre buket you know you have a low pressure problem, in my case a huge rustic clogged one. Hope the no dig option works out!
