Should have gone to Specsavers

Well, I knew I should have gone earlier but a fail of my licence renewal eye test forced my hand..and off I went to get glasses which I picked up on Friday. Tonight on the eve of my 50th birthday I am out at my observatory under dark skIies...and pickle me grandmother the sky is full of tiny shinny sharp spots and there are many more of them!!! As the Milky Way is rising I can see all the fine dark dust lanes...this is like a rebirth!! even the space between the stars looks darker!

Aaaah procrastination....

My skies here are quite dark and the improvment in the sky appearence is substantial but Im looking forward to casting my new goggled gaze up at the Milky Way from Wiruna!

Similar story with me. When I was dating my wife we went to the movies. Couldn't see the damn film. Not that it mattered, had my mind on other things lol. So went off to get some specs. I'm only 0.75 - 1 diopter out, but stars sure do look sharper now.

As I mentioned in the other thread before it mysteriously disappeared
I got my first pair of glasses near a decade ago, looking up at the sky is like binoculars compared to without!

My eyes likely just need some good old fluorite magic

My distance vision is still perfect, but my close accomodation is pathetic - arms length minimum now.

I use 1x el-cheapos from Big W. I had a pair of OPSM, but they lasted all of 4 months before breaking into a pile of twisted flimsiness. The Big W ones have out-lasted the too bloody expensive OPSM ones by a factor of 10.

$400 vs $12...hmmmm.

That is pretty good vision and I hope it stays that way for you. I have a zone of focus that extends from 4 inches in front of my nose to my elbows. Oh and the astigmatism isn't helpful either! Solution, one lens focuses on infinity, the other is optimised for reading and the adaptability of the brain fills in the rest.

Russ,
Many surgeons are no longer offering different focal lengths when fixing
cataracts, owing to a growing and significant number coming back to have the
normal arrangement fitted, being unable to adjust to the optical weirdness.
