Check out the size of this ant

I was just outside having a cuppa when alone came this ant . Had to get the camera. This thing is big.

thats big allright

a few years ago i was digging a trench with ride on trencher and knocked a bit of a tree and out came these bugs untill i had a closer look damm they werent just any bugs they were ants upto an inch and a half still shudder at the thought of the size of them needless to say i didnt stick around for long

Ahhh yes, the good ol' Queensland Jumping Ant by the look of it. Also called Jumping Jacks. If it is the same as down here, they can jump straight up about .4m and when they bite you'd swear some one had jabbed you with a soldering iron.

I admire your cool, I would have stepped on it first then taken a photo!

I got bitten by one just like it on my toe, thru the socks and ouch! I had a swollen foot and could not wear shoes for 3 days.

We have a similar looking critter at the farm, if you disturb their nest they come roaring out in a very foul mood. They also seen to pick up on the vibrations as you move away and follow you until they think are far enough away from the nest.
The problem is that they are nesting under my Olive trees.

Yes this one lived mybe i should have steped on it. It was a bit flipped out when i was putting my finger near it to get the sizecof it in the photo

Did you know that if your everyday household Ant was the size of a medium sized dog, it would be able to easily lift and carry off a normal size car such is the strength that they have.
Ants would then easily rule the world.

I read that in a Ripley's Believe it or not comic circa 1972.
