This is another one from the faint and rarely imaged catalog. IC 3104 is probably one of the least photogenic galaxies I've ever imaged but also the furthest south at -80. There is a lot of dust (integrated flux nebula) in the neighborhood. It's taken a fair time to get all the data given the patchy weather lately.
There's no such thing as an ugly galaxy Nice to see something off the beaten path, Steve! Might be an interesting area for a wide field too with all that dust.
The galaxy itself is fascinating. It looks like a Magellanic or irregular dwarf galaxy, with clumpy blue star-forming regions, buried inside a near-featureless elliptical. I expect that's a rubbish explanation, because the scale would be all wrong. It would have to be a very small elliptical or a very big dwarf! Would love to know what's really happening.
No field rotation at only 10 degrees from the pole. Nice colours too.
I can see what you mean by unphotogenic galaxy, not a lot of anything going on in it.
You have picked up a lot of the IFN though, nicely done

Thanks Rick. Not ugly perhaps but some galaxies look more interesting. I think the IFN makes up for any problem though.

Yeah bit of a nondescript smudgy bugger but with the galactic cirrus it all makes for an interesting scene none the less ...and imaging at 80 deg S makes it more cool

Thanks Mike. Polarissima Australis would be pushing it I guess so I don't think I'll be going further south.
really nice work Steve - the extra stretch gives a nice glow to the IFN. have been doing some imaging at -78deg lately - its is interesting to say the least and your results are excellent for that altitude.
