That gut wrenching sinking feeling

Have an Astro item in transit to me. Was sent in 2 boxes with the first arriving yesterday. The other, sent same time is still in transit. Tracking details as on 20 min ago says it is finally Underwood, QLD BUT marked as Damaged in Transit - undergoing assessment.

It's not glass but still could potentially be very damage done as it's heavy enough.

I am guessing the untrained monkeys at Chullora chucked it around seeing it sat there for 2 days.

Here's every appendage crossed....

OK, it's now showing again as back in transit...but that MAY not be to me. After ringing Auspost, apparently a damaged item goes to their assessment centre for a detailed inspection and that apparently takes 4 days...

I get the feeling it is back on its way to me though, as likely the box is just boogered - more crossed fingers.

I guess seeing it wasn't insured if it is damaged, scratched etc that I am SOOL (I am sure you can decipher that )

I know how you feel.
Opened up a box to see that the counterweight arm had punched through the packaging. Aimed it at mars and saw a rainbow...
Did get a replacement without delay though.

Lewis if the box may be crushed/broken and it is not glass, then maybe all will be well.
Have faith.

I have faith that AusPost will do their best to ruin a 25 year old piece of Japanese finery. Problem is any real damage may not be readily discernible - hurt spur gears, bent worms etc. Paint doesn't worry me TOO much (though, being a classic, I'd prefer it was unscathed).

Don't be too quick dismissing no Insurance, Aussie Post has a contract to who paid the postage & have a legal duty of care to you. If they damaged it in their care, they are responsible. Australia Post has their own insurance anyway.

It arrived.

It's sad.

Lots bent, a few broken. And the counterweight shaft either not sent with or simply vanished.

Some is replaceable, some may not be - the mount has been out of production for 5 years.

At this point, I am at a loss as to how to proceed. I will leave it up to the sender to start with Auspost.

Side note - Auspost courier refused to pick up the package - they insisted I did. Fair enough.

So sad Lewis. Seems the monkeys in Chullora
get paid no matter how bad they are .
And people wonder why I dont trust post/ couriers for fragile items.
Sucks big time
bigjoe.

I am the guy who attempted to post a Vixen mount to Lewis. It has arrived minus the weight shaft and virtually every locking lever/knob damaged and the plastic housings cracked. In short, a bloody mess.
The package was tracked but not insured, the cost was $62 and was marked with an Auspost sticker as heavy
The package was accepted at my local post office and carried by a young woman (see Lewis' post as regards the postie refusing to carry it)
It was posted on 27th Jan, was indicated as being in transit on 30th Jan and again indicated as being in transit 1st Feb but now "item damaged" appeared on the screen.
Can Pinwheel give me any advice on how I should proceed.

David, you may as well right it off, Insurance, Fragile, Handle with Care is of no consequence.
I asked once for a package i sent some time ago, you do at your own risk, they will not take any responsibility for the package and a fragile handle with care means nothing, what happens to it after you post it is anyone's guess.

Sorry, but that is the truth of it.

An area I used to work in would send circuit board via Aust Post. One day we asked about handling etc. Was told don't mark as fragile or glass because they may want to hear it tinkle. As to how well to package. Their advise was "Hold it straight out in front of you and drop. If it survives that, it will be ok".
Did not instill us with confidence about anything fragile and heavy.

I worked for many years in the dispatch / receivals area of a warehouse. I saw a courier driver once handle a small - 2kg - package that was covered in fragile stickers by opening the back of his truck and throwing it in.

Someone with a life spent in the industry told me early on if you WANT something to get broken put a fragile sticker on it.

One can only imagine that prior to being sent to the "assessment" centre, its already been assessed as being buggered in the first place..... still, keeps a faceless un-named beaurecrat in work! Also, see Lee Andrews (Andrews Communicaions/Sydney) has a full paragraph on his site where he requests that customers DO NOT EVER MARK PACKAGES AS "fragile"! This thankfully doesn't apply to all carriers, but as with anything, there's always a dud about. I've been caught on rare occasions, but on the whole I've been lucky. I've also once had a letter from Auspost telling me my package was in the dreaded assessment centre. Oh No! When it arrived, all was good and they had done a great job of repacking a previously underpacked item. Its really a lottery though!

At this stage you need to make a hell of a lot of noise about it. take photos and send them with your complaint to Australia Post administration, and to the communications ombudsman. You need to express that their Duty of care has been naught and you are now financially disadvantaged due to the damage they caused. You also need to push the point that they "Australia post" charged you money & entered into a contract with you to deliver said parcel.

If you have a solicitor friend he/she will know which way you need to go with the wording. good luck with it.

Just listening to the moring news and a senator just released the small payrise going to the ceo last year
In 2014 total package of $4.6 million, including a $2.6 million bonus.
In 2015 believed to be $2.1 million ( turned down a $2.9 million bonus ).
In 2016 total package of $5.6 million, including a $1.2 million bonus.
So on average, his salary going up 500k per year.
Something has to be cut in the supply chain to pay for it.

Also, I think he can now afford a good solicitor to fight you back :-)
