NEQ6/Synscan hissy?!

All of of a sudden, my neq6 has a near-instant death-event on commencing slewing to a GOTO target.

I don't think the issue is with the mount drive motors - I can still control these directly through the handset & I see full & free slewing motion in both axes.

Help!

Dean

yep, and also check where it goes into the mount - the socket can come loose on the main board.

Thanks for your speedy replies, Glen & Ray.

I'm pretty sure it's not a power issue - it only happens when starting a GOTO from 'park', otherwise fine....

Do you have to unpark it and commence tracking before issuing a go to??

Can go directly from 'park' & resume tracking & GOTO.

What did you have in mind?!

Ian: I've tried mains and battery - no difference.

I'll try re-flashing the hand control: currently running firmware v3.27

It's the random nature of the problem that makes it even harder to track down. The 'dead' event only happens on about 1 in 5 GOTOs...

might still be the power. Mine would drop out intermittently at some angles when the weight of the cable pulled the socket away from the board - but it would still work work fine at all other angle where the cable pulled the socket back into contact. Can you still drive it with the buttons immediately after it fails the goto? (not sure from your initial post)

Ray - after it 'freezes', I have to power off, then on, & can then button-drive (in both axes).
I've also seen some error messages (ERROR COM1) & weird screens:
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIII
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIII
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIII

I think if re-flashing the hand controller doesn't work, then it's time for a new one.

Thanks for your interest!

Dean
