Meade F8 sct focusser

Hi all. I believe that the focuser on the F8 Meade sct tubes is different to that on the F10's. Has anyone motorised the focuser on an F8 sct ? Is the process much the same as for the F10 models?

Ulrich,
Do you mean to old f7 variation of the Meade SCT??
I've had a few over the years and the rear cell and focusing arrangement is identical to all the other Meades.
Hope this helps.

I think the newer f/8 tubes have a mirror that rides on bearings instead of grease?

Gday Ulrich

The "focussing mechanism" is the same as the old F10 units, but i believe it now has a 2speed knob as default.
Tony is correct in that the sled now rides on preloaded bearings, vs grease, and hence has very little mirror shift. ( but the 12,14 and 16" units do have mirror locks, as ( i believe ) the sled was so free to move that the springing in the focus arm caused changes in focus as you slew).

Not sure if anyone has made a motor unit for the new Meade focus knob tho.

Andrew
