Parkes radio telescope 3D paper model

Just in case you have a few spare hours... you can now download the plans for the Parkes 3D paper model from their website - www.csiro.au/parkes

I've built one. It took me about 4 hours!! But was worth it.

That is cool. do you have pics of your model?
I'm going to try it and see if I can get the dish to swivel as well.

I'll post a couple of pics of my model tomorrow. Need to be careful folding the little bits in the turret.

My wife bought our little one a "model" of a big excavator then made me do it as it had no instructions (I managed)

I reckoned she should do this one but she thinks I should do it seeing I managed the other.

Sigh, the efforts we will go to for a space mad four year old.

I think it looks pretty cool so I will probably have a crack at it. Pus it appeals to th radio tech in me, though I actually worked primarily on radar.

Cheers Chris. Thanks for letting members know about this little project.

I have had a go at putting this together with my Son. We are taking our time with it and still have a few bits to put together.

I will have to find some minature cricket players to place in the dish.

This is our progress so far:

You can replace some of the paper bits with painted metal flyscreen mesh for a more authentic look.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks bojan for your investigative leg work in tracking this one down.
As an educator when I go around giving talks I like to have a few models to demonstrate to the Young People what it is I am talking about !!!

Any other Models that you may come across please get in touch. I am already a member of Papermodellers.

Once again, Many thanks Bojan, Clear skies,

Astronut1
