Meade auto star computer connection

I am new to connecting my laptop to my Meade Lt auto star. Telescope came with #505 cables and adapter but can not connect to laptop. Went to jay car and brought USB to rs 232 adapter. They are both nine point and will fit together but have screw on each side and are unable to attach securely. Do I need to return this and get one from Meade. The one the bin tel shop site was the same as the jay car one. Appreciate constructive advice thanks Rae

Gday Rae

My "authentic Meade 505" adapter also has screws in it instead of threaded sockets, as do all my current USB2Ser adapters.
I never bother "securing" them anyway, as when plugged together they lock tightly enough not to pull apart.
If you are worried about them accidentally seperating, just use some masking tape around the join.

Or you could go to a computer shop and get some female-female "nuts" to screw both sides into - geez that reads badly...
