I'm selling my ST8XE. I bought it off Astromart from the original owner, and have owned it ever since.
It has spent a lot of its life in storage as I mostly used it for trying my hand at photometry. Unfortunately with kids I dont have a whole lot of time left for that.
I specifically bought the version that had been modified for liquid cooling AND auxiliary cooling, and that has NABG.
With the auxiliary cooling you get another 6 degree reduction, and if you add the pump it reduces by 15 degrees over the standard cooling.
So everything is there to increase the sensitivity of an already sensitive camera by a fair bit.
The auxiliary cooling requires a 2A 12V power supply plugged in the back, a US power adapter comes with it (I used an inverter, if you dont have one you just need to get a 12VDC power supply from Jaycar).
If you want flowing water the pump is supplied with tubing (again the pump is US power but you can use any $15 fish tank pump). I never used the water cooling.
The NABG is essential for the linear response you need for good photometry, and of course you can make fantastic "pretty" pictures with it.
The camera is in great condition and works wonderfully. I have had zero issues with it.
All the software you need comes with it, so no extra purchases required unless you want to upgrade to something like MaximDL.
It also comes with a Globtek Canon lens adapter that lets you screw any canon lens to the camera (you can see it here
http://www.optcorp.com/teleskop-serv...ot-30a189.html) and the Sbig test lens which is great for learning how to use the camera during the day.
Manuals are supplied for the camera and software, and the quick start guid for Sbig USB cameras, and the memo on the auxiliary cooling.
pictures are on their way ...
In this package you get
- Kodak KAF-1603E imaging CCD NABG
- Built-in TC-237H CCD autoguider (yes the bigger guide chip)
- High speed USB interface
- Auxiliary cooling (extra 6 deg cooling)
- Newer heat exchanger design with water cooling (Extra 15 deg cooling)
- Accessory test lens: It is very handy for capturing images during daytime when testing the camera or learning the software. Simply unscrew the nosepiece and screw this lens in place.
- I2C bi-directional expansion port, compatible with the CFW-10 filter wheel.
- 2A 12VDC Power supply (US Power, needs an inverter or you can get a 240V power supply in Oz)
- Pump (US Power) and tubing for water cooling
- Tripod mount 1/4-20 threaded side plate
- T-thread ring and the D-block
- 1.25" nosepiece for inserting it into your focuser
- User rechargeable desiccant plug
- CCDSoft v5.
- Geoptik CCD camera adapter for Canon
- Telescope interface cable (for autoguiding)
- Globtek 90-240VAC power supply (often Sbig cameras from the US come with that darned 120V supply - I ordered the Universal supply seperately)
- Camera Operating Manual
- CCDOPs operating manual
- USB Cable
- The pre cut foam insert for the original Sbig carrying case. The case itself was repurposed to hold my sky90 and is now overseas, but a replacement pelican 1600 case is cheap to get on ebay. Its the insert thats impossible to get, or needs to be made from pluck foam that isnt as nice as the factory cut insert from sbig.
All in all this camera cost me 2500usd when the exchange rate was 0.48 OUCH + shipping + customs.
Then I bought the Globtek power supply, a new D block, the Globtek Canon lens adapter
So its a pretty special package that cost me well over $5kAUD.
Yes you can get a new one for less but remember the nice people at customs will charge you GST (on the camera AND shipping) plus at least another 6% for their trouble, and you have to pay shipping, and of course the cameras with the auxiliary cooling cost more too.
Price including shipping in OZ is $1200 OBO.
