I am thinking of reducing the focal length of my Celestron 9.25 SCT and have a question.
My imaging train at the rear of the scope is a Meade electronic focuser - some 3"-4" in overall length, and large Lumicon OAG (about 6" - 8" long) locking into a aCanon EOS adapters (say 2" long) and then into a Canon EOS.
The Lumicon OAG came with a focal reducer for SCTs. When I tried using the installed Lumicon Focal Reducer all the stars showed significant coma and the guys at Lumicon couldn't figure out why other than guess the Meade focuser's length was changing the length of the optical path to the camera... (Which I thought doubtful but maybe - given an SCT has a lot of back focus)!
Do you believe your focal reducer would slot into my imaging train and work as expected - or am I likely to see bad coma if I use this one too?
Many thanks if you can help as I would be happy to buy if its going to work for me and can fit my imaging train!
Also where in my imaging train would the reducer go given I have a OAG - just before or just after the OAG? The Lumicon reducer lens which I ended up removing went inside the OAG! Your Reducer looks like it screws to teh base plate of the SCT by preference - is this the only option - or can you place it elsewhere with the right adapters?
